How to Get Keyword Coherence

Read on to find out how  to get Keyword Coherence – ……  Don’t know what that means?  Quite simply it is a phrase I invented to show how keywords fit together, strengthen each other and contribute to the wholeness of the site [Blog]. In other words – getting all your ducks in a row….
Keywords SEO Links

  • Keywords Defined

The logic with keywords is that Google will define your site by detecting keywords, then show it in the SERPs to other searchers using those keywords as references.  So if your post is all about SEO for blogs, then the prime keyword is SEO, and the first longtailed keyword is BLOG SEO. This is the basis of your keyword structure.  SEO is the head, BLOG SEO is the back-bone, and all the other related terms like,  KEYWORD, SEARCH, GOOGLE, and SURFER are “dem Bones that walk all around” as your site [keyword] skeleton. Keyword Coherence, therefore, is the art of making a strong skeleton [framework] of keywords; keywords that all point to each other and build each other up.

  • Keyword Connections

Each article [post] features a particular keyword, and than talks about the long-tailed keywords that belong to it. The prime post keyword is related to the preceeding post prime keyword and strengthens it. So if your first post was about SEO, then the next post might be about GOOGLE, and the one after that about SURFERS – all related subjects – all building keyword strength. And all to do with SEO, Site Design, and Keyword Coherence.

  • Keyword Linking

Keyword Coherence is further strengthened by linking.  To Maxinize your Site post about SEO, you would link the keyword GOOGLE to the next post (about Google), and in that post you would link your SEO keyword back to the previous post about SEO. This web of links that you create, each keyword linked back to it’s parent, and linked forward to it’s child [long-tail], is the internal component of “Keyword Juice” – it is the “internal linking”.  The other element is “external linking”, where you link to other related websites; and they in turn link back to you. This is the process known as “Back-Linking“‘

    I like your new invention. Everything that you have shared with me has worked. I am beginning to learn the ins and outs of all of this. I think that my puzzle has it’s borders and now all I have to do is put the rest of the pieces in place. I completely agree with you.

  2. I’m just learning about linking and this is very interesting to me!

    So I link my posts to each other? Fascinating.

    Adding Keyword Coherence to my list of things to do.

    Thank you for the information,

    You wrote an excellent explanation with a lot of food for thought. The thing I am wondering about is this. With what you are writing, you pretty well have to plan out a series of articles which relate to each other.

    There are various blog philosophies such as blog on whatever you feel like blogging about or write a diary or do product reviews. The point is, it seems that you have to have a different kind of philosophy to do your kind of blogging. All these different kinds of blogs, it seems to me, are using different underlying philosophies behind them. I’m trying to sort this out in my mind.

  4. Hi. I have never heard of the Keyword Coherence strategy before. I’ve read similar methods but didn’t paid attention to it. I have always used internal linking but never really thought of it as a “strategy”. I just link a post whenever a keyword related to it is used on another post. Well, I guess its time to connect them all. Thanks for the idea.

  5. Rhys says:

    @Cheryl

    Really good question – I think surfers coming here in response to the site theme (Monetize Your Site )will be totally understanding of the concept of a tightly focussed theme, with posts that are supportive and contributory.

    It doesn’t matter whether you want to make money, or win more readers, the logic is the same. Marketing is marketing! Right??

  6. this is all seo really nice internal link important. i have read all content about your blog and comments but, every one gave there own opinion, but such kind of blog posting nice .

    I Agree with most of the ideas presented on this post. One comment I would like to add is that before targeting specific keywords onw should be thinking if those keywords should be targeted at all. Sometimes the target keyword is to competitive. In your example – “SEO” shouldnt be treated as the main keyword for the specific landing page since it is too competetive to rank for in most markets where old and established websites domiantes the first search engine result pages.

  8. Rhys says:

    @Wao –

    Quite so, but on the other hand, somebody has to offer the big boys some competition., There is a recent classic case of “Grizzly” Brears who set out to dominate the “Make money online for Beginners” keywords, just to prove it could be done, and he used a plain standard blogspot blog to do it!

  15. Hi Rhys,
    Thanks for all that – it is very good information for beginners (us). Backlinks is interesting. If we place a comment on a blog as we are doing now is that only half the process? Does the blog author then have to comment back on our blog before we have a backlink?

    I think that I have seen this done somewhere else. I did not know what they were doing though. It is nice to have it explained to me. I know that I can make this work for me because you have never steered me wrong. Great as always!

  18. It’s not necessary because once your comment is approved by the moderator you will instantly get a back link pointing to your site. However, you should make sure that this link is a do follow one.

  19. Roch says:

    Interesting post although I still wonder if targeting TOO MANY keywords is possible? I read someone that it didnt matter how many keywords you targeted however if I think about Google at one point it will be confused.

  20. Thanks for writing this. A number of people I work with in SEO don’t even realize that the keywords we choose must be similar or at least be in the same field. I’m also wondering the same thing as Roch: is it possible to target too many keywords at once?

  21. I think Internal Linking is a very important part of SEO but many bloggers fail to Understand the importance of it. Linking blog posts with related keywords to each other can certainly prove spicy for the search engines and give the posts a better SEO Grade. I think it is a good way of getting better rankings for the posts. Thanks for the tips

    There’s a plugin for WordPress that can automatically go through all your posts and turn all “tag keywords” into links. Every time you mention the name of a tag in a post that tag gets a link. Then all the tag pages link to the posts with those tags. Would that be a good type of keyword linking?

    Internal linking is one of the tools of gaining PR. For example, if you have 5 thousand pages on your website, linked with each other, and linking to the home page, by the way: the homepage will gain about 3 PR points even without external links.

    Hi Ginny – I think it is possible to target too many keywords, at once – it is a process and it works best by adding “little and often”. And you picked out the other really important point, that they ought to be related. This is essential to a purpose built, focussed blog.

  47. Inner linking is a such an important tool. I see many sites using the “read more… click here…” style links when a good anchor internal link opportunity is wasted. I try and internally link as if i was a user walking them through the site. Since doing do it has improved my bounce and conversion rate. Good article
