How to Get Listed Twice in the Top Ten SERPs

I have a question from Mariam [Anti-aging Diets] wanting to know how to get listed twice in the top ten SERP’s. This is when you have your page in the top 10 and another listed page offset directly under it. This double listing is very cool [also classed as getting 2 birds with one stone].
- Use Identical Keywords
We will assume for the moment that you selected your niche and long-tailed keywords [LTK's] carefully and already have one page in the top ten SERPs. Then to repeat that, you have to optimize another page with the identical keywords and with an equal dose of linking authority, and internal site linking. - Double Listing – AKA, Double Indexing and Indented Listings
Double Listings are also known as Double Indexing and Indented Listings.
Double indexing can also refer to the situation where you have the same site listed twice, once as http://www.whatever and again without the www in the URL. A Double Listing with the indented listing directly below is the ideal. Another good example of getting a double listing in Google SERPs is this post from Lissie [search on Site Build it Scam Review] which opened up the whole topic of Scam Reviewing of affiliate products.
- Good SEO
Google ranks each page on it’s authority for the keyword being searched. This authority is made up of relevance, plus the authority and relevance of the incoming links to it. So to get onto that coveted top ten page you need to apply some SEO to your page and get your keyword coherence in place. That means placing your keywords correctly; getting your internal links set up as in “Rocket Your Site to No 1 in Google“; and setting up some quality backlinks, as in Grow Your Links Like an A-Lister.

Finding out how to get listed twice in the top ten SERPs is a good step on the way to finding out how to Monetize your Site! Getting in the first five of the top ten will just about guarantee you get traffic, but doing it twice [double listing] will really guarantee it!

I think the real advantage is that your link is perceived as more authoritative when doubled, therefore much more likely to be clicked than not. The added spin-off is that you are displacing one competitor down below the ‘fold’ too.

Thanks so much for answering my question and the link! You’re right that it makes your site look so much more authoritative. It is funny though. I am up and down the first page of one of my niches which are double linked. I used to be 3-4 (top site is 1-2) Now I’m like 7-8 and the rest in between are only single linked so obviously I’m much more target oriented. Hmm, but I’m not sweating it. Just move on.

Nice site, I found it via my friend (Andy Bailey) and his Fiddyp blog.
I think this is a very interesting article. My site gets a lot of this double headed results and I have never really know why, now I have a better idea.
I also agree with one of the other comments that says it makes the site look more authoritive in peoples eyes, if they see the same site twice in google, it makes it appear better. Well it does in my eyes anway.

The really nice thing about this is that the second listing is often pulled up from way down in the SERPs, and thereby gets itself onto the top 10 page too! Great bonus!

That’s really pushing the envelope!
However, do a search for hide Adsense from social traffic and you will see I score the first four places out of 85k SERPs.
So I guess the answer to your question would be; Yes it is possible, but you need to use a different URL for the third and fourth pages. You can do this using a sub.domain I believe. E.G., MySite.com and Sub.MySite.com would not be considered to be the same site by the Google SERP algorithm.

Reply to Best etf funds listI definitely agree that getting a double listing is very advantageous. You are much more likely to get traffic from that keyword. If your site is tightly themed around a specific niche, you often get double listings naturally. You don’t have to do all of the link building all over again for the second page. As you mentioned in your reply, the second page does often get pulled up from deep in the rankings. So you really just need one strong page with a related page on the same website.

Reply to Chiropractor FLYes, I have done this and for one of my sites, I am the only on Googles front page to have a + sign below the double entry, then if you click it, my other pages from my site show. The later part was done solely with article marketing.

I would like to shuffle the keywords and apply them in a different manner because I just recently read that every page should have it’s unique title and there must not be much duplication with keywords. Also not to over-use the same keyword, But I’ve also seen double listings very often so it could be okay in terms of search engines but one should use it properly.

Hunting 2 listings in google can be tricky and you can end up with just one listing, and likely with the less optimized page, on a lower position. So I suggest using similar, not identical, titles and keywords on more than one page, with links pointing to both pages.

I’ve seen lots of sites doing this double listing. As an internet user, I still see myself going to the next indexed page of a particular site. Well, that’s plainly because, as a normal internet user before, I don’t have any idea about this double listing.

I don’t think you can because an address is unique, except maybe get one listing for the street address and the second for a Box number (Read this)
Don’t know about Google shake ups, but all my prime post keywords are still Number 1, Double Indexed, and Trust Ranked as well. So I must be doing something right

I am really surprised that more websites do not take advantage of this strategy. If you can dilute the SERP’s with your listings, you are pushing one more competitor to page #2 and you are likely to get much better click through rates.

If I remember correctly, the trick is to do internet link building on a page that you want double listed (ie. point a link from all of your internal webpages to that one single page.)
